A$100m donation to Perth's Murdoch University and animal hospital

Australian businessman Ted Powell has donated A$100m ($65m) to Perth's Murdoch University. The funds will be used to rebuild the university's veterinary school and increase the number of vet students by almost half. Murdoch University vice chancellor Andrew Deeks said he was speechless when informed of the donation. "Well I had to take my jaw off the floor and bring it back up." Deeks said the donation would transform the university. "It's bringing the facilities up to world class standards." The rebuilding is expected to take about five years and will enable the university to boost the number of students wanting to train as vets from 105 to 150 per year.
