The tooth fairy isn't paying as much for teeth this year

« Back to Dental

The annual Tooth Fairy Report by Delta Dental reveals that the value of a single tooth has declined by 6% over the last year, marking the first decrease in payouts in five years. The average payout for a child's tooth dropped from $6.23 to $5.84. The value of a child's first tooth also decreased from $7.29 to $7.09. Despite the decline, some regions in the U.S. saw an increase in payouts, with the west showing a 37% increase and people in the Northeast boosting their giving by 12%. The South fell below the national average this year, while the Midwest saw a significant decrease of 36%. Delta Dental hopes to use the report as a way to highlight the importance of children's oral health and encourage good oral hygiene habits at an early age. "Tooth Fairy giving is a fun conversation starter," says Gabriella Ferroni, Senior Director of Strategic Communications at Delta Dental Plans Association.
