Mobile clinics tackle dental crisis in Tennessee

« Back to Dental

Meharry Medical College is addressing the dental health crisis in rural Tennessee through mobile clinics that provide affordable services. Dr. Julie Gray, associate dean of community affairs, highlighted the urgent need for care, saying: “Many people are uninsured and lack access.” The mobile units, which resumed operations in 2021 after a pandemic pause, aim to prevent dental emergencies by offering preventative care. They have partnered with local churches and community organizations to reach underserved populations. Gray noted the positive response from the community, emphasizing the importance of these units in ensuring access to dental care and preventing more severe health issues. “These units are very vital to bridging that gap,” she said, as she underscored their role in promoting preventive health.
