Illinois launches awareness campaign about fake dentists

Illinois has launched a public safety campaign to raise awareness about fake dentists following CBS News Chicago's report about the damage done by an imposter dentist. Unlicensed dentist Monica Davis left Chicago area patients with fake braces and a chipped tooth. State records show Davis registered The Veneer Experts as a business in July last year. The Veneer Experts had also been reportedly operating at a Las Vegas strip mall, and Davis was picked up for illegally practicing dentistry without a Nevada dental license before being released from police custody. The Illinois campaign provides ways to check if a dentist is the real deal — and tips for how to spot a fake. "Today we are launching an important campaign—Fake Dentist, Real Risk," announced Mario Treto, secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
